JMJ *This is a fun one, as well as a simple way to bring joy to your little kids and maybe older ones too. Take a long winter’s nap, in your living room! Get out your sleeping bags and camp out with your kids, right in front of the tree, after enjoying a crackling fire in the fire place or watching a Christmas classic.
Every day for 16 days, right in the heart of Advent, you will find little things which are inexpensive to do, involve little to no preparation, for family and close friends to enjoy together this holiday season, on this blog site, www.onceuponaschoolhouse.com. Although a few ideas might be added to your Christmas bucket list, these are mostly traditional ideas that have a timeless quality to them.
Ways to Savor the Season 12/16- Take a long winter’s nap
This is a fun one, as well as a simple way to bring joy to your little kids and maybe older ones too. Take a long winter’s nap, in your living room! Camp out with your kids right in front of the tree, after enjoying a crackling fire in the fire place or watching a Christmas classic. We have had so much fun doing this, that we have camped out multiple times in one year, my husband excluded, who enjoys having the large bed to himself on this occasion!
On the homefront… Ring the School Bell 73/180 Days
Much to my sadness, as we strolled down Colorado Blvd this afternoon, in Old Pasadena, we discovered that two of my favorite places are closing. Barnes and Noble, yet another bookstore, is closing, as well as Louise’s Trattoria, a delicious place, friendly to Sarah’s allergies. Sarah loves the penne with marinara sauce, which they carefully prepare for her. And the crème brulee for the rest of us, ooh la la! The girls and I did enjoy a bit of window shopping and found a few treasures for Christmas gifts. And we did benefit from the Barnes and Noble’s final clearance sale, everything marked down 50%. Yahoo! Too bad they are leaving, though. Two more days until Christmas vacation! Okay so it’s kind of like a sneak preview today, as I don’t remember any academics taking place!

** Note to the Reader- Today’s narrative is part of our family’s school journey from a few years ago, during my eldest daughter’s senior year in high school, a rather emotional year, with its many ups and downs. Every day’s blog entry coincides with a day from that special year. It can be read from the beginning by selecting the “Ring the School Bell 180” category on the side bar. Commence with the narrative, “The School Bell- What comes to mind when ‘you’ hear that bell?”
